Wellbeing and Mental Health

Our role in school is not only about learning and academic achievement: we are also here to support the well-being of all our children and families.  We have experienced and well-trained staff who can provide this support in a number of ways.

ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants): Mrs Lewis is our ELSA-trained member of staff.  She can work with children in small groups or on an individual basis to help them with areas such as managing their emotions and developing their social skills further

ELSA

Lorraine Jones, Lay Chaplain: Lorraine works in school on Wednesdays and Thursdays through a project funded by the York Methodist Circuit.  As well as supporting with Collective Worship, Lorraine runs lunchtime clubs to provide a relaxed environment where children can explore faith and spirituality (or simply enjoy some calm time!) in an appropriate way through arts & crafts.  Lorraine is also the Families Worker for Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church and can always be reached for support and advice.
Compass Buzz: this is part of the North Yorkshire Schools Mental Health and Wellbeing Project, which offers confidential information and advice for professionals, parents/carers and children & young people across North Yorkshire in relation to emotional and mental wellbeing. We have taken part in whole-school initial training, with key staff moving onto the Part 2 training, to enable us to take a whole school approach to supporting the mental health of students.
