Link: 2022/23 Impact of Primary PE Funding

At Forest of Galtres, we recognise that all pupils, regardless of their background, should have access
to a curriculum which will help them to reach their potential.

The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE
and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active
lifestyles. Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

– hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE
– support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday
– provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
– run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in School Games
– run sports activities with other schools

Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on PE and sport provision and on how schools
spend their additional funding. The Government also holds schools accountable by requiring them to
publish on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their PE and sport grant. They
must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE
and sport they offer. This means that schools should use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to:
– develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
– build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will
benefit pupils joining the school in future years
